Nick comes out, walks the property with you, and listens before pitching anything. We measure, note grade and access, flag anything that affects scope or permitting, and leave you with a clear sense of what's realistic and what it takes. No fee, no pressure.
Design & Estimate
Drawings, material options, and a flat written quote, inside a week.
You get drawings, material and finish options laid out plainly (composite versus wood, paver versus flagstone, quartz versus granite), and a flat, all-in written estimate within a week. The number you approve is the number you pay, barring changes you ask for.
Build
Permit pulled, one crew on site, weekly updates, clean every day.
We pull the permit, handle the HOA submission, and put one accountable crew on the job from framing through finish. You get a written schedule and a weekly update. Interior sites get sealed off each evening and swept daily. Disruption stays surgical.
Final Walkthrough
We walk it together, close the punch list, and hand over the warranty.
Before we call it done, we walk the project with you and build a punch list together, then close it. You get the warranty paperwork and a direct line back to the people who did the work. The relationship doesn't end at the invoice.

How much does a custom deck cost in the Charlotte area?
Most Berg-built decks in the Charlotte metro fall between $12,000 and $45,000 depending on size, material, and elevation. Pressure-treated wood sits at the low end; composite (Trex, TimberTech) and multi-level builds with railings and lighting sit at the higher end. Every homeowner gets a flat, all-in quote. No hourly surprises.
How long does a kitchen remodel take from start to finish?
A typical Berg kitchen runs 6–10 weeks from demo to walkthrough, with most of that time being cabinetry lead times and tile work. A simple refresh (paint, hardware, counters) can be done in 2–3 weeks. You get a written schedule on day one and weekly updates.
Do I need a permit for a new deck or covered structure in Mecklenburg County?
Yes. New decks, pergolas, pavilions, and porches require a Mecklenburg County building permit, plus HOA approval if applicable. Berg handles the permit application, plan submission, and inspection scheduling as part of every build. Union County and Cabarrus follow similar rules with their own timelines.
Are you insured?
Yes. Berg Custom Builds carries general liability and workers' comp insurance. Certificates are available on request before any job starts.
Do you offer anything for military, veterans, or seniors?
Active-duty military, veterans, and homeowners age 65 and up get 10% off the labor portion of any Berg project. Bring proof at quote time and it goes straight onto the written estimate. No codes, no fine print.
Do you charge for in-home consultations and quotes?
Never. Every quote starts with a free, no-pressure in-home consultation. Nick walks the property with you, listens to what you want, and follows up with a written estimate inside a week.
Can we stay in the house during an interior remodel?
Yes. Most kitchen and bathroom remodels happen with the homeowners still in the house. The work area gets sealed off each evening, floors and furniture in adjacent rooms stay covered, and the site is cleaned daily. Disruption stays surgical.
Do you build in HOA-restricted neighborhoods like Ballantyne or Myers Park?
Routinely. Berg handles the HOA architectural submission, neighborhood approval, and any required materials or color matching as part of the project, across most of Charlotte's gated and HOA-restricted communities.
